Winton Ynion’s remains were cremated at 2pm today. I got this text from AYLA:
“AYLA family’s unity was truly inspiring and instrumental which made a decent final resting place for him possible. Maraming salamat for your efforts and prayers! As we seek justice for his brutal killing, we intend to create a team to be on top of the investigation and legal procedures. Though we know this is an uphill battle, we are firm that AYLA may play a vital role in this crusade. We’ll keep you posted with whatever plans we may come up with. We need as much support from you. For now, let’s keep praying for Winton’s soul and for the healing of the pains of those who love him.”
I’d also like to thank the people who heard my call for help and donated – as of today, your efforts alone totaled to P17,700. Some of my friends gave a little, some a lot, but when I told you guys that anything is better than zero, I meant it. And P17,700 is definitely better than zero!
For those who still intend to donate, please do so – AYLA still needs to recoup expenses. For Winton’s family and friends who found my blog, I will keep posting updates if I receive any. Also, here is Steffi Borromeo’s number (AYLC 2007) – 09275326150 or 752 1065. She is my contact in AYLA.
Lastly, this experience has proven two things to me: the generosity of friends (even to a stranger) and the power of the Internet. When I went to the wake the other night, I felt a bit useless – there were so many dedicated AYLA volunteers that I didn’t get to do much. But the comments I’ve received on this blog, and the donations that we’ve sourced, prove that volunteerism goes beyond the physical. Thanks again to everyone who helped. Heaven smiles at you today.
